Just stay with me and let me explain.
As you know, I spin. I love to spin and now that my foot seems to be in working order, knock on wood, I am back to spinning 4-5 times per week. If you have never taken a class, try it. It is addicting. Perhaps more than coffee or chocolate! The music makes you focus and work and the instructor pushes you beyond what you think you can do. And yes, Angela, my booty is always hanging off the back.
This morning was a great ride and it was wicked hot in the darkness of the spin room. Sometimes when the temperature and humidity are high outside, it is exceptionally sticky in the spin room…even at 5am. Before I knew it, 55 minutes was over and we were off the bikes stretching. Terri and I have been spinning in the morning for at least 3 years. We know each other well and many mornings, she is the reason I do not hit snooze on my alarm clock. Anyway as we wiped up, drank some water and bent into a deep stretch, behind us we heard a low, guttural and deep “ughhhhhhh”, almost a moan. We looked at each other and laughed.
I said, “That sounded worse in the dark.”
Terri said, “cycle porn”, and I started to think. Like a teenage boy, I began giggling at all the references one could make to another activity that could occur in a similar environment. How’s that for skirting the issue?
Think about it.
- We are in the dark; sweaty and hot; lightly and loosely dressed.
- There is a warm up, a type of introduction to the activity to get your body ready
- There is anticipation and exertion
- You are coached and encouraged to work harder and faster
- The instructor repeatedly refers to the position of your booty, your girly parts and your man parts
- Most instructors tell you not to lie when asked to turn up the resistance. If you fake it, you are the only one who will know
- “Close your eyes and concentrate”
After the excursion of the class, tension subsides and the body slows into a calmer pace. That “oooo” or “ahhh” slips out as release is almost a given.
“Remove all resistance, slow your pace and hit the red knob to stop the bike”, says the instructor. That’s when it starts. Sounds, aches, grunts and all the while in the dark. Terri and I were giggling like two teenage girls for goodness sake.
On the way out the door after each class, we all review our performance and discuss the highs and lows of the class. Where we excelled and where we failed.
Now to my dear fellow spinners and friends: don’t judge or be leery but laugh with me and Terri. Support this discussion, as juvenile as it may be. Know that we too are heavy breathing and letting a moan or two slip out. Years ago, someone said to me, “where else can you have this much fun with all your clothes on at 5am?” Great question but I refuse to answer on the grounds it might incriminate me.
